This
month we caught up with Kevin Gray. Some of you old school Chicago Rockers
may remember Kevin sitting behind the drums for local wise guys, Circus Circus.
These days Kevin is the front man and guitarist for the Peoria-based bands, The
Megasonics and Spitshine69. A guy with this kind of energy needs to stay
busy, or else there will be trouble. Guaranteed.
Kevin sat still and took time out of his busy schedule to answer some questions
for us with the wit and charm we know and love. Read him, enjoy him and make the
trip to see The Megasonics. You have plenty of
opportunities, just check out the bands busy schedule at their website http://www.themegasonics.com.
If you're looking for a party, we have found your hosts right here. You
won't be disappointed.
What
is the secret to keeping both of your bands together?
Making them feel equally special, and lying to them both.
Actually, SPITSHINE69 is just me recording songs that I've written whenever
I get the chance. So the MEGA$ONIC$ are my only real Band.
Playing covers has become a necessary evil because of the reality of
our surroundings.
What do you feel are each band's strong points?
The MEGASONICS = Body odor, guitar tone, alcohol tolerance, the ability
to recognize a good song
SPITSHINE69= not really caring if anyone else likes it, cause I do.
What makes your stage show unique?
For 4 fat guys, we can REALLY move!
All of the Spitshine69 songs are great, but what was the inspiration for
"Still" and "Big Fat Pig" ?
Still is just a mood piece. Kinda eerie.
Big Fat Pig is about an ex manager (no one you know)
Which song generates the most positive feedback?
Out of my songs, people seem to enjoy White Knickle Ride.
Live, I would say any RAMONES song.
Why do you think that is?
I think its because you really get the tension of a real drag race coming
across in that song.
There is nothing like the smell of NITROUS on a Sunday morning!
What is your main inspiration to get out there and do this night after
night?
Just getting out of the house and escaping everyday life for a few hours.
I feel lucky to have a stage to freak out on for all to see and enjoy.
What is your favorite thing about being on stage?
People have to listen to you, no matter how WRONG you are...HA
HA...suckers!
What's the one thing you hope your fans take home with them after a show?
Me
Most memorable band moment?
I don't think you can print that here...2 words, EUROPEAN TOUR!!
What do you feel is the MOST important ingredient of a successful band?
Getting along. Not wanting to kill each other ALL the time.
Where will the Megasonics be playing next?

Spitshine69?
